SAHLA 2014 Languages Symposium

SAHLA is hosting its 2014 Languages Education Symposium  on Saturday November 8, 2014, from 9 am – 3 pm at the Executive Royal Inn, 2828- 23 St. NE

The theme of this year’s Symposium is Preparing students for global citizenship, career opportunities and life-long learning.”

Keynote speakers include:

  • Ms. Joy Bowen-Eyre, Chair, Board of Trustees, Calgary Board of Education
  • Mr. Jason Luan, MLA Calgary Hawkwood
  • Honourable Gordon Dirks MLA, Minister of Alberta Education

Sessions to be presented include:

  • Technology for Language Learning: How to make wise decisions that benefit students’ learning.

Presenter: Sarah Elaine Eaton, Faculty of Education, University of Calgary

  • Calgary Board of Education – Partnership with SAHLA for Community-Based International Languages and Classroom Facility rentals.

Presenters: Corinne Sandhurst, Rental Coordinator & Nancy Chui, Administration Assistant, Calgary Board of Education.

  • University of Calgary Continuing Education: Teaching Second Languages (TSL) Professional Development Program.

Presenters: Ana-Marija Petrunic & Monika Kucajz, U of C Continuing Education

  • Success Indicators for Language Programs: Inspiring IL in Alberta with Ontario Perspectives
  • In and Out of Your Chairs – Icebreakers, motivators and overall fun activities for language classrooms. Participation of everyone expected!
